Saturday 28 April brought some awesome challenges and key learnings! Check out the wraps against defencing Premier A Champions Southern Magpies and Uni Albion A.
Markham's College Mens Green vs. Southern Magpies
Before the game the Green’s coach’s advice was “Southern have been club champs for a long time, there’s a reason for that”.
The Green team found that out the hard way with Southern’s full court pressing defence, precise circle feeding and accurate shooting causing the Green team no end of issues through the first three quarters of the game.
Whilst the scores were relatively close at each of the quarter breaks, thanks in no small part to Connor Ketchen’s accurate shooting, the continual turning over of possession was proving costly for the men despite some fine defensive work by both Francis Liardet & Jordan Te Amo.
The last quarter proved the difference with some very controlled & precise feeding in the attack end from Justin Lobb along with turnovers through the Green defensive end saw the Mens Green team emerge victors.
Final score: 54-51 to Men's Green.
Southern will be out to turn this around in round 2 for sure!

Markham's College Men’s Blue vs University Albion A
The first two quarters of the game against University Albion A were highly competitive with the Albion defence from mid court back proving effective in disrupting the flow of ball through the Blue team’s court. The 2nd quarter saw building pressure through the mid court of Ryan Fitzgerald, Jon Mathias & Phil McKay providing cleaner ball into both Blue shooters who were highly accurate in their shooting throughout the game with the score being close at half time and reflective of a close battle.
The game swung entirely on the 3rd quarter with precision feeding at pace from both Jon & Ryan cutting loose the through court attack at pace and with the ball being turned over regularly by defensive pressure particularly from Simon Hood the scoreboard ran away.
In the final quarter, it was a more even affair with Albion having a strong finish. The score line not a reflection of what was a good competitive game.
The Blue team wishes Cassie Daley a quick & safe recovery from her injury on the weekend.
Final result: 65-36 to Men's Blue.
