Eastern Southland joined the major centres in topping its pool yesterday.
It joined the two Dunedin teams and Invercargill in claiming two wins on day one of the South Island senior championships at the Edgar Centre. Eastern Southland, which boasts Southern Steel twins Kate and Georgia Hefferna, claimed handy wins over Black Gold and an Invitational side. It will play North Canterbury at 10.45am in today's quarterfinal.
Dunedin Blue claimed a thrilling 37-35 win against a North Otago side featuring Aliyah Dunn and Taneisha Fifita in the closest game of the day. Both teams beat South Canterbury and look to be tough to beat in today's playoffs.
North Otago will provide a very tough test for Invercargill in its quarterfinal at noon. Dunedin Blue will face Upper Clutha 10.45am.
The other quarterfinal features Dunedin Gold and South Otago at noon.
